Zion, utah

Rising above the Virgin River, Zion National Park is an incredible cathedral of red, orange, and white peaks. As Utah’s first National Park, it is home to some of the most incredible formations and canyons in the state. It was originally the homeland of the Ancestral Puebloans, and more recently, the Southern Paiute. The area was then settled by the Mormans. Most of the Paiute died from disease or fled the area, dispute generally peaceful interaction. The canyon was originally called Mukuntuweap, meaning “straight arrow” or “straight canyon” in the Paiute language, but was changed to Zion, a Biblical reference, in response to Mormon pressure.
